To clear U.S. customs when shipping a vehicle, the car must either be paid in full or authorized for shipment by the lien holder. If there’s a lien on the car, it will be rejected unless you’re a government employee or military member with special clearance. If your car is paid off, you’ll need several documents to ship it overseas. These include two copies of government-issued identification, a complete vehicle registration, shipper and consignee details, and possibly a notarized Bill of Sale (or another version). From certain ports in Florida, you may also need a Power of Attorney to authorize agents to clear your documents. Lastly, make sure to have certified copies of your title ready. Be sure to also check the destination country’s requirements for any additional paperwork needed once your car arrives.

Yes, you will need to designate someone to hand over the vehicle and keys to the driver at pick-up, as well as sign the initial inspection report. Similarly, someone will need to be present to accept the vehicle upon delivery and sign the final inspection report. This person must be at least 18 years old.
